Today's posts
Today’s poem is ‘Grace’. I post it each year around this time as 24
November is Grace Darling’s birthday.
Her father, William, was the keeper of the Longstone Lighthouse on the
lonely coast of Northumberland in the north-east of England. She was just 22
when she and William rescued 9 people from the steamship Forthfarshire in a
storm in 1838. There is a Grace Darling museum at Bamburgh. It is well worth a visit, and in pride of
place you can see the boat in which Grace and her father rowed out to the wreck.
Go there if you can.
Then we have a change of
scene and come back to London. This is the last part ‘Three Hours from Spain’.
It includes a dinner for two, a review of The Mousetrap and goodbyes at Gatwick
Airport. Carmen and company came to
London on 14 September and today they return to Madrid at the end of their
holiday.
