Today's posts
Today’s poem is ‘How
much?’ What is the value of art? The
pleasure it gives cannot be quantified, thank goodness. The satisfaction gained
from reading ‘Jane Eyre’ or ‘Bleak House’ is endless. But monetary value is different. Some
paintings are sold for immense sums, but who has not visited an exhibition and
thought, when looking at some expensive abstract painting, ‘Well, I could do
better than that!’ And what about poetry? There is no market for it, I’m
afraid. Perhaps a penny for a poem?
Today’s letter from my
terrace is ‘The Present is a Gift’. It
all started when correcting a student’s composition.
Finally, Christmas is here
once more, and so I have posted ‘Christmas in Brittany’ from ‘Dorigen’. If you
want to read the rest of the poem you can find the first part on the blog in
Archive under January 2018. To get to Archive click on the four horizontal
lines at the top left of the front page that has the photo.
