Today’s poem is ‘Conversation
by a bougainvillea’. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that can
compare with walking in the fields and along the hedgerows in England in April.
Today’s letter from my terrace is a tribute to
Gilbert White. His letters, written in
the 18th century from the little village of Selbourne, have
something, hard to define, which makes you read them year after year. According
to one reckoning his collection of the letters, the ‘Natural History of
Selbourne’, is the fourth most published book in English.
