Another year has passed and Christmas is here once
more. ‘The Observers Book of British Birds’ is not a Christmas poem but it does
mention the robin, which is one of the traditional images of the season in
Britain, along with mince pies and Christmas pudding. The robin, perched on a
spade in a snow-covered garden, is a favourite on cards. All through the year,
when you pick up a fork and start digging the garden, the robin appears and,
thinking you are working entirely for him, starts hunting for worms.
Happy Christmas!
‘The Tall Girl from
Somerset.’ Bob returns.
