Apart
Apart
I remember the place where we
used to meet
With the whole of London at
our feet.
November it was, and misty
and dark.
Your cheeks were cold, your
fingers too,
But as warm as Newcastle coal
was your heart.
Now you are where the towers
were,
An empty place where the
towers stood.
And I am here in the tireless
sun
Where the gaudy red hibiscus
flowers
And the baking lizards run.
Will we walk together you and
I?
Will we ever walk together
again?
Hand in hand,
Will we walk by the Thames,
Heads down in the rain to
that pub in the Strand
Where a year ago we said
goodbye?
